 Introduction

Bangladesh is a country that has been a part of the global education industry for years. Students from all over the world come here to study or get admission to one of the many universities and colleges. However, there are many aspects that must be considered when choosing which university to go to; not just reputation but finances as well.

University of Dhaka

The University of Dhaka is a public university located in Bangladesh. It was established as the University of Dacca in 1921 by the British colonial government in undivided India. The University of Dhaka started functioning on its permanent campus under its charter on 3 July 1953 and was renamed to its current name in 1956.

The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), as well as having campuses in Narayanganj, Gazipur, and Narsingdi.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology

The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) is a public university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest engineering universities in Bangladesh. It was established in 1960 and offers courses related to engineering, architecture, planning, and computer science. The university has three campuses: Kalyani, Eskaton (Banani), and Uttara. The main campus is at Tejgaon Area, Dhaka-1215. BUET has been ranked 13th among 20 Asian top universities by QS World University Rankings 2019 and also placed 14th among BRICS nations by QS World University Rankings 2019, while it was ranked 7th among South Asian top universities by QS World University Rankings 2020.

Jahangirnagar University

The Jahangirnagar University (JU) is a public university in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established in 1960.

It is the largest university in Bangladesh and one of the largest universities in the world. The JU has 12 faculties and 96 departments under them that offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs to about 28000 students every year.

Islamic University of Technology

Islamic University of Technology (IUT) is a public university in Bangladesh. It is the only university in the country that offers degrees in Islamic studies and technology. I was established in 1992 by an act of the Bangladeshi parliament.

The Islamic University of Technology is a multilateral development agency of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that focuses on education, science, and technology. The university has a total campus area of 7.35 acres which includes the main academic building (78,825 square feet) and several departments.

East West University

  • East West University is one of the leading private universities in Bangladesh. It was established on January 20, 1992, by an Act of Parliament. The university has a very impressive campus with state-of-the-art facilities. There are about 15,000 students studying at this university and eight faculties for undergraduate and postgraduate studies are available here, including business administration and management science (BAM), political science & public administration (PPAS), English language & literature (EL&L), law & legal studies (LLS), engineering technology (ET), pharmacy & pharmaceutical sciences (PPS), science & humanities faculty(SAH) and education faculty.

North South University

North South University (NSU) is one of the largest public universities in Bangladesh, and it’s also ranked among the top universities in the world. It was established on 15 July 1992 under North South University Act 1992 by the promulgation of the 'North South University Ordinance, 2002' with its main campus at Dhaka. The first academic session of NSU began on 7 October 1993 and more than 34000 students are enrolled with more than 6300 faculty members.

The university has three campuses: two in Dhaka (central and north) and one at Chittagong. Since its establishment, North South University has expanded considerably with several units added to its organizational structure to meet the growing needs of students and teachers for quality higher education.

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET)

Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) is a public university in Bangladesh. The university was established in 1985 and it has its main campus at Khulna. KUET has four faculties: Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Business Studies, Economics and Social Sciences; Faculty of Law and Social Sciences; Faculty of Science, Humanities and Social Sciences.

BRAC University

Ranked 12th, BRAC University was established in 1992 as a nonprofit private university by the non-governmental organization BRAC. It is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and has three campuses: Shahbag Campus (the main campus), Farmgate Campus (formerly known as the Azimpur Campus), and Nilkhet Campus.

BRAC University offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in business administration, engineering, education, social work, and humanities. The university also offers distance learning programs through its satellite campuses located around Bangladesh along with an online portal that provides access to e-learning courses for students who live outside of Dhaka city.

In addition to these programs, BRACU has research centers including the Centre for Sustainable Urban Development; Centre for Health Research & Practice; Centre for Energy Studies & Management; Centre for Women's Studies & Applied Research; Centre for South Asian Studies; Institute of Development Research; Research Center on Disaster Management.

Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU)

Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) is a public university in Bangladesh. Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University was established in 2008. The campus of MBSTU was originally built by the Pakistan government to house a medical college meant for training army doctors, but after 1971 it played host to several educational institutions including some large institutes of higher learning like the University of Chittagong and the University of Engineering & Technology, Dhaka.

The university has five faculties:

  4. Faculty of Law, Economics & Social Sciences

Daffodil International University

Daffodil International University (DIU) is a public university in Bangladesh, established in 2002 by the Private University Act 1992. The university is located at Mirpur-15, Dhaka. It has a permanent campus of 100 acres at Mirpur-15 and another temporary campus at Mohakhali Thana, Dhaka. DIU was ranked first among private universities by THES - QS World University Rankings 2019 and second among all Bangladeshi universities by Asiascholar - QS World University Rankings 2020.

This list is not complete, as there are many more universities in Bangladesh that are worth studying. However, these universities have great reputations and offer quality education with facilities to help students succeed in their academic goals. The ranking system used by QS takes into account factors like research excellence, teaching standards, and the employability of graduates.
